Not every day on the water needs to be planned from start to finish.
You might head out to snorkel and decide you’d like to spend some time at a quiet beach. Maybe you’d like to try a little fishing while you’re out there. Or perhaps the plan is simply to get on the boat, explore the Gulf of Papagayo and see where the day goes.
That’s really the idea behind Delfin Azul.
We have different trips to choose from, but we don’t think your day has to fit perfectly into one of them. Tell us what you’re interested in, who’s coming with you and what kind of day you’re looking for. From there, we can help you work out what makes sense.
The ocean has a little say in the plan, too.

A Few Ways to Spend the Day
Diving
Diving From Playa Panamá
Papagayo Bay gives us plenty of local options. The Catalina Islands take you farther offshore, while the Bat Islands are a different kind of trip altogether and are better suited to experienced divers.
We keep our groups small, with no more than four divers per trip. It means more room on the boat, fewer people in the water and more flexibility throughout the day.
If you aren’t sure where you should dive, that’s an easy conversation to have. Tell us about your certification and experience and we’ll help you decide.
PAPAGAYO BAY
If you’d rather stay closer to Playa Panamá, Papagayo Bay is a good place to start.
There are several local dive sites to choose from and options for different experience and certification levels. Conditions vary, of course, so the exact sites are usually decided with that in mind.

CATALINA ISLANDS
The Catalina Islands take us farther offshore.
The area is known for its volcanic underwater formations and variety of marine life. Manta rays, sea turtles and reef fish are among what you may encounter, although, as with any dive in open water, no two days are quite the same.

BAT ISLANDS (Islas Murciélago)
The Bat Islands are for divers looking for something more challenging.
They’re located within a protected national park and are probably best known among divers for the bull sharks found in the area. The diving here can involve greater depth, stronger currents and changing conditions, which is why previous experience matters.

Advanced divers only. Because of the depth, currents and changing ocean conditions, this trip is recommended for experienced advanced divers.
Snorkelling
A Few Hours in the Water
Snorkelling is probably one of the simplest ways to enjoy this part of the coast.
We’ll head out into the Gulf of Papagayo for a few hours, spend some time in the water and explore the marine life in the area. There’s usually time to enjoy more than one spot, and a beach stop can be part of the outing as well.
It’s a nice option for families and groups with different comfort levels around the water. You don’t need to be an experienced snorkeller.

Fishing
Let's Go Fishing
Some guests come to Costa Rica specifically to fish. Others haven’t done much fishing at all and just think it would be fun to try while they’re here. Both are welcome.
We head out aboard Sawfish, our 27-foot boat, to fish the Pacific waters off Guanacaste. What we’re likely to find depends on the time of year, conditions and, naturally, a bit of luck.
Roosterfish, mahi-mahi, tuna and snapper are among the species found in these waters.
You can head out for half a day or stay out longer and make a full day of it.
HALF-DAY FISHING CHARTER

Can accommodate up to four anglers.
Water, iced tea, alcoholic beverages in moderation, fresh fruit and snacks are included.
FULL-DAY FISHING CHARTER
$850 USD
Can accommodate up to four anglers.
Water and beverages, alcoholic beverages in moderation, fresh fruit, snacks and lunch are included.
BEFORE GOING FISHING
Costa Rica requires each angler to have an individual INCOPESCA fishing licence. Once your deposit has been received, we can arrange the licence for you. For fishing trips of more than one day, the licence is included.
Trips depart from Playa Panamá, Guanacaste.
Sunset Tour
An Afternoon on the Pacific
You don’t necessarily need an activity planned for every minute you’re on the boat.
A sunset tour is a chance to head out in the afternoon, enjoy the coastline and let the day unfold a little more slowly.
We can snorkel. We can do some local sport fishing. We might stop at a beach or spend more time cruising along the coast. It really depends on what your group feels like doing.
Then, toward the end of the day, we find a good spot and enjoy the sunset.

The options above are a starting point. They’re not the only way we can spend the day.
Maybe you want to snorkel, but your partner would also like to fish. Maybe the kids want a beach stop. Or you’re travelling with friends and nobody particularly wants to follow a schedule. And that’s fine.

Weather and ocean conditions will always play a part in where we can go and what makes sense that day.
Planning Your Experience
What to Know Before Booking
RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS
We require a 20% deposit when you make your reservation. This secures your booking, with the remaining balance due at the time of your trip.
If your plans change, please give us at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before departure may result in the loss of your deposit.
Sometimes the change of plans comes from our side. Weather and ocean conditions can make it unsafe or simply impractical to head out.
If we need to cancel or reschedule your trip for those reasons, we’ll talk through the options with you. We can find another suitable date or arrange to refund your deposit.

Prices are listed in USD.
All listed prices include taxes.
Where we go on any particular day depends on weather, ocean conditions and availability. That’s especially true when we’re heading farther offshore.
Some activities require specific certifications, previous experience or licences. If something applies to your trip, we’ll let you know before you book.
If you’re coming with a larger group, staying elsewhere in the Papagayo area or thinking about combining activities, ask us about it. We may be able to arrange something that works.
